    Snow Storm 02/10/2010

Chronicling the continued snow storms of February 2010.

Gov. Edward G. Rendell ordered the closure of major roads, warned against travel and activated the National Guard to aid stranded motorists as the latest in this winter’s series of blockbuster storms walloped the Mid-Atlantic states.

Interstates 83, 78, and part of Interstate 81 were closed beginning at 12:30 p.m. A second set of highways will be closed at 2 p.m.: Interstate 76 at Reading, and the Schuylkill Expressway and I-476 (Blue Route) in Philadelphia. The Pennsylvania Turnpike will remain open for now but is not allowing tractor trailers or cars towing trailers. Speed limits have been reduced.

Officials said 1,100 members of the National Guard have been activated to aid stranded motorists if necessary. They will patrol in Humvees and are equipped with ready-to-eat meals and blankets.
